Five Oceanfront Campgrounds in Maine
There are a number of great camping spots located along the Maine coast. A few popular locations you may want to try include:
Camp Eaton
Camp Eaton is an RV campground that offers only full-season rentals, making it a perfect location for those who plan to enjoy their visit to the Maine Coast for an extended period of time. The campground is a 35-acre facility located in the heart of York Beach. It is situated just opposite of Long Sands Beach, which is one of the one of the largest and most popular beaches in Southern Maine.
The park offers everything that long-term RVers need, including full hookups at each site, cable television, spotless restroom and shower facilities, pay phones, an on-site dumping station and more. Additional amenities include a well-stocked camp store, an all-ages recreation program, a playground and much more. Leashed pets are welcome.
Hermit Island
Gray Homestead is a small Southport, Maine campground ideal for campers looking for cozy, scenic oceanfront camping. The park has more than 40 tent and RV sites, including seasonal sites. Some cottage rentals are also available. The campground does not offer as many amenities as larger parks, but is a lovely spot to relax and enjoy the Maine oceanfront.
Gray Homestead is a great option for kayaking enthusiasts, with easy put-in access. Bring your own kayak, or rent one from the campground in full or half-day increments.
Leashed pets are allowed at campsites, though there is a limit of two pets per campsite. Pets are not allowed in condos or cottages.
Sagadahoc Bay Campground
Sagadahoc Bay Campground on Georgetown Island features more wooded camping than other coastal sites. Tenters can choose waterfront or wooded sites, while all of the RV sites are on the water. A few rental units are available. The campground features a dumping station and a bath house.
In addition to sandy beaches and rocky ledges perfect for fishing, the park also features a mile-and-a-half of clam flats, providing campers the opportunity to enjoy clamming as the water recedes at low tide. The campground also offers an amazing view of Seguin Island Light.
Campers are allowed to have up to two pets per campsite, though they must remain leashed. Pets are not allowed in the rental units.
Searsport Shores Ocean Campground
Searsport Shores Ocean Campground is located in the town of Searsport, on the shores of Penobscot Bay. It is positioned between Bar Harbor and Camden village, making it a great home-base for a Southern Maine vacation getaway. This facility can accommodate all types of campers, ranging from tenters to those who enjoy "roughing it" in the largest and most luxurious of recreational vehicles. Some spots are directly on the ocean and many others have great ocean views. A few rental cabins and trailer units are available.
The campground covers 40 acres, providing ample room for comfortable camping and many amenities. Highlights of the park's recreational features include a boat ramp, hiking trail, boardwalk, tanning deck, arcade, playground and more. The park also offers bath house facilities, wi-fi, a dump station, an on-site store offering gifts and RV supplies, and more.
Pets are allowed, though there is a limit of one pet per site, unless campers make prior arrangements. There is an on-site dog park area where canine companions can romp off-leash, though they do need to be leashed in other areas of the park.
